Either the bride or groom must apply for a license in person in the Washington County Circuit Court office. (If neither party is a resident of the county, application may be made by mail - see Non-Resident Application below for more information)

The license is valid only in the county in which it was issued. The wedding ceremony must take place in that county.

There is a 48-hour waiting period before the license is effective.

The license is issued the same day you apply, and is valid for 6 months.
