Brittany Elizabeth Beard and Samuel John Buhrman announce their engagement.

The bride is the daughter of Dale and Julie Beard of Hagerstown. She is a 2003 graduate of South Hagerstown High School and a 2008 graduate of Salisbury University with a degree in early childhood education. She is employed as a second-grade teacher with Washington County Public Schools.

The bridegroom is the son of Bruce and Mary Ann Buhrman of Hagerstown. He is a 2002 graduate of South Hagerstown High School and a 2008 graduate of Shippensburg University with a degree in marketing. He is employed with Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

An Oct. 9, 2010, wedding at Stone Manor Country Club in Middletown, Md., is planned.
